Omega-3s and ADHD: A missing piece of the puzzle?

Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat that is important for brain function and overall health.

They are found in high amounts in certain types of fish and in plant-based sources such as algae, nuts, and seeds.

My favourite source you ask? SARDINES. They have a low toxicity profile combined with a high amount of omega-3s per serving.

There is some evidence to suggest that omega-3 fatty acids may be helpful in the management of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Some studies have found that children with ADHD who took supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids had improvements in their ADHD symptoms, including better attention and impulsivity control.

However, it’s important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between omega-3 fatty acids and ADHD. While some studies have found a benefit, others have not.

Overall, the research suggests that those who are deficient in this essential brain nutrient will benefit more from supplementation than those who aren’t.

So…how do you know if you are deficient?

My suggestion is to start here if you suffer from ADHD, depression, heart disease or any type of cognitive decline (brain fog) to see if an omega-3 deficiency is a piece of the puzzle.
